Awning Prices in Ireland: What You Will Actually Pay

A made to measure semi cassette awning, the most popular choice for Irish patios.

Most people come to us with the same opening question: what will an awning set me back? Because every awning we sell is made to measure, there is no single price tag. Two patios that look similar can end up costing very different amounts once you factor in the span, the arms and the finish you want. Here is how we work it out, and how to get an exact figure for your own house.

The five things that move the price

  • Span. This matters more than anything else. Each unit is built from 2m up to 7m across, and if your wall is wider we hang two units side by side, so costs climb with every extra metre.
  • Reach. Arms come in 160cm, 210cm, 260cm and 310cm projections. The further the fabric reaches from the wall, the stronger the arms have to be, and that is reflected in the price.
  • Cassette. An open awning with the fabric roll on show is the simplest build. A semi cassette shields the fabric with an aluminium hood, and a full cassette tucks away fabric, arms and roller for the tidiest look.
  • Drive. A manual winder is included as standard. The optional Somfy electric motor comes with a remote control and a manual override.
  • Fabric and finish. Up to 150 acrylic fabric patterns and six standard frame colours, from white and silver to anthracite grey and black.

From budget open awnings to full cassette models

At the value end, the Jamaica starts from €1,495 supplied and fitted in Dublin, extra cost for nationwide fitting to cover time and fuel. It is the traditional open design, and you can add an aluminium hood over the fabric roll if you want it shielded when closed.
The Classic Style works the same way and is a favourite with customers who fancy fitting it themselves, with prices starting from €1,295 with free delivery anywhere in Ireland.
Moving up, the Palladio semi cassette keeps the fabric tucked under an aluminium cover, and the Full Cassette gives you the cleanest, most modern finish of all. Whichever you choose, the maths is the same: a compact awning over the patio doors costs a fraction of a 7m span across a full terrace.

What you get when you order from us

When we price a job we price the whole thing. Your quote covers the awning itself, built to your measurements in the fabric and frame colour you pick, plus delivery anywhere in Ireland, and fitting by our own team if you would like us to install it. The easiest way to start is to email or WhatsApp us a few photos and the measurements in centimetres, along with your name and location. We reply with the options that suit your wall and a clear price, so you know where you stand before anything is ordered.

Worth considering: the extras

  • Somfy electric motor with remote control, plus a manual winder override for peace of mind.
  • Wireless wind sensor that rolls the awning in by itself when a gust picks up.
  • A valance in a straight or scalloped edge.
  • An aluminium hood to shelter the fabric roll on open models.
  • Your logo or branding printed on the fabric for pubs, cafes and shops.

Five ways to spend less

  • Measure the seating area you actually want to shade, not the whole back wall.
  • Stick with an open or semi cassette if a full cassette finish is not important to you.
  • Stay with the manual winder if you want to keep the cost down and are able bodied.
  • If you add any extras, make it the Somfy electric remote control motor and wireless wind sensor; they help to look after the awning when you are not around.
  • Order in spring rather than mid summer, when demand is at its peak.

Warranty and fabric care

Peace of mind comes as standard. Every custom made awning we sell carries a 5 limited parts warranty, covering the structure and mechanism. What is not covered is physical damage, misuse, or damage from the elements. The acrylic fabrics themselves are treated to shrug off water and dirt and to hold their colour in strong UV, so we recommend  a twice yearly once-over the fabric with a soft brush and a wipe down of the frame or cassette with a damp soapy cloth, and a lubrication of the arm joint's also offer a n annual maintenance service on our awnings in the Dublin area, if you would prefer us to look after it.

Awning or pergola?

For pure shade on a budget, a retractable awning is hard to beat: it folds away when you are not using it and covers you from sun and light showers. If you would rather have something that stays up in proper rain and works all year round, look at our retractable roof pergolas or the SB400 bioclimatic pergola with its adjustable louvres. They cost more than an awning, but they turn a patio into an outdoor room, with the optional addition of our ZIP screen blinds, or sliding glass walls.

Patio Cover Options for Irish Weather: Awning, Pergola or Both?

One minute the sun is out, the next the clouds roll in off the Atlantic. That is Irish summer in a nutshell, and it is exactly why so many homeowners ask us what kind of cover to put over the patio. The wording people use varies (canopy, awning, sun shade), but the real decision comes down to a few practical questions: how much you want to spend, how much rain you want to sit through, and how much of a permanent structure you want in the garden. Here is how our own range breaks it down.

The retractable awning: shade on demand

A wall mounted awning has no posts and no legs. It rolls out over the patio when you want it and disappears completely when you do not, leaving your house looking exactly as it did before. It is the easiest and most affordable way to get real shade, and it copes fine with a light summer shower. What it is not built for is heavy rain or strong gusts, so it should be rolled in when the weather turns. Our made to measure awnings span up to 7m per unit, with arm projections from 160cm to 310cm, and a wind sensor on the electric option will roll it in by itself if the breeze picks.

The retractable roof pergola: sit out in the rain

Add a freestanding aluminium frame with its own support legs and you get something tougher: a retractable roof pergola. The waterproof fabric roof slides open and closed, and the frame carries the rain water through its own column legs rather than your wall, it shrugs off showers easily.
Choose this if you want to keep the tables outside during a rain shower. If you need cover that reaches further from the house, or if you simply like the idea of an open roof on a fine day. Integrated front gutters drain the water through the legs, and LED lighting, zip blinds or sliding glass walls can be added to turn it into a proper outdoor room.

The bioclimatic pergola: an aluminium outdoor room

The SB400 bioclimatic pergola swaps fabric for a roof of adjustable aluminium louvres. Twist them open for light and air on a warm day, close them tight when the rain arrives. There is nothing to roll away and nothing to retract, just a solid, all year round structure that you control with a remote. It is the biggest investment of the three, but it behaves like a permanent extension of the house rather than an accessory.

Quick comparison

  • Budget: the retractable awning costs least, the fabric roof pergola sits in the middle, and the bioclimatic is the biggest spend.
  • Rain: an awning suits sun and light showers, the fabric roof pergola handles heavier rain, and the closed bioclimatic louvres keep it out entirely.
  • Wind: roll an awning away in strong gusts; the post-supported pergolas are built to stand their ground.
  • Look: an awning vanishes when closed, while a pergola becomes a visible part of the garden that you design around.
  • Planning: a wall mounted awning is usually the simplest addition; for a larger fixed structure it will give a more all year round solution.

Still torn? Start with the awning

Plenty of our customers begin with an awning and add a pergola later for a seating area further down the garden, or to replace the awning in a few years. Both are made to measure in Europe to CE standard, both can be finished in your choice of frame colour, and our team can survey, quote and fit either one anywhere in Ireland.
Send your photos and measurements in centimetres to sales@awningsdirect.ie, message us on WhatsApp, or fill in the inquiry form and we will recommend the option that suits your space and budget.
